Lobsters!

I made some new friends :) Meet Monsieur Homard (orange with the moustache), Noel and the blue lobster, Maurice. All measure under 15 cm from tail to nose, crocheted from cotton yarn.

Tea time

I've just been introduced to pearl blossom teas (I think its called something like that) - tea leaves and flowers are tightly wrapped into a ball, and when in water, the leaves unfurl to release flowers. I spend more time watching my tea than appreciating the taste...and it does taste nice :)

London, 12-14 October 2009

When in London for a short business trip, i managed to squeeze in an afternoon at the Tate Britain. The 2009 Turner prize was there, together with an exhibition of the painter, JMW Turner. However, what really got my attention were the long term collection of the Tate. I humbly stood before some of the splendid portraits of John Singer Sargent. I managed to take two pictures with my phone before I was stopped by museum security.

The Pop Life exhibition was at Tate Modern, but silly me couldn't figure out the way there and was too tired and so gave it a miss. All i got of the exhbition was a picture of the poster in the underground!!! I didn't get to see much of London central cos my work was largely at a hotel at the airport. oh well, next time then.

The flowers outside the Tate Britain were beautiful :) Very modest non-showy pretty. I don't see enough flowers in Singapore!!!!

Desire - 3x3x30 at Red Dot

Here's another set - 3 inches x 3 inches in poster colour. I wrote and painted about some common things that people want in life.

What's life without dreams and imagination and rainbows?

Money makes a lot of things happen, but it's not everything in life. And it becomes really sad when it is.
Love. We search for it and compensate for the lack or loss of it with possessions, addictions, recklessness. Someone who can solve this challenge please contact me.

Child's play - 3x3x30 at Red Dot

These were done for the OIC 3x3x30 exhibition at the Red Dot Museum on 3 Oct as part of the 3rd anniversary for OIC. Each drawing is 3 inches x 3 inches. One set done by me is called "Child's play" - all in poster colour.

Gulp. Boo. I want comfort. I want love.

Hurhnffff. I want it my way. I want attention.

Hhhnggff. I'm better than you. I want support.

Coffee, tea or me?

A poster for an internal event. It was really fun working on illustrating the food items and cafe branding :) we sold coffee, tea and snacks at several locations within our office and raised quite a bit for charity :)

I'm starting a low carbon diet!

Was doing some research on carbon footprints and took some visual notes below.

Hopefully, more and more people will develop a consciousness about what we are doing to this earth and to our own health :)

Some pictures from Tokyo :)

Me and fleecircus went on an adventure...

...we stayed at a hotel with old world charm with very pretty tiles and many cicadas.

She helped me pick out a salmon pink shoe with green insides. (I'm wearing them today)

And the walking Dorami mascot was the cutest thing ever!!!

Palette knife oil painting class

Here's my third piece from the palette knife oil painting class I attend. I bought some new colours and had some fun with them as you can see from above. I find it hard to mix rich pinks and especially intense purples, so it was really great to get it out from a tube :) The photo is taken with a camera phone - will replace with a better picture next week. The actual still life set up is below. More about Mr Wee Shoo Leong's oil painting class here.

OIC figure drawing session 25 July

Some pieces from the OIC figure drawing session on Saturday 25 July. Experimenting with colours and brushes instead of my usual pencil or charcoal drawings. All done with poster colours on B5 craft paper. Really fun - though some pieces didn't work out ha ha :) but I'm glad I tried! :)

Spotlight: "How I paint - Secrets of a Sunday Painter" by Thomas Buechner

Don't be misled by the words "sunday painter" in the title. Thomas Buechner is no ocassional painter - he's an established portrait, landscape and still life painter, he's in his 70s, he paints everyday, and his book is quite inspiring. I'll leave you to visit his website http://www.tombuechner.com/ to find out more about him, but I'll share with you some paintings of his and tell you what I found the most meaningful from his book.

I just started another blog which will hold most of my thoughts about painting and art. So do drop by at "What I think about when I think about" and let's talk :)

Purple rose and lime spider chrysanthemum

I had no idea it could be done - but here's my first blog post with my new mobile phone. Well sort of. I took the picture of the two flowers keeping me company at my desk, and sent it to my blog via my phone and then typed in the text from my computer :) I like how the flowers lean into each other. Paint-worthy maybe? :)

Yellow boy

Painted from a photo reference. A work-in-progress in oil and acrylic.

My rather messy workspace. Some renovations are going on, so all this has been packed up and stacked under many things. Won't be painting for a while at least not large pieces in oil. Boo :(

Another girl on couch

I've been at it again - "studying" a painting that I like from Kent Williams. This time it's "Girl on couch".

My version - 30" x 30", oil on canvas.

A close up of the face.

And here's the original work from Kent Williams.
